I was first introduced to Chuck Prophet during Mark Mallman’s Marathon 3, when he performed something like 6 or 7 or more hours on the Turf’s stage at Mallman’s side. His incredible sense of fun, effortless musical talent and blistering guitar solos blew me away. Mark even egged him on – “C’mon Chuck, you’ve got more notes than that!”. Indeed, he did, and he brought a boatload more of them to the Turf just a few days later. Mark joined him on stage for the encore still somewhat loopy and led Chuck’s band in some truly unusual directions before Chuck brought things home authoritatively. Amazing night. And I only caught the last 15 minutes of the show, thanks to other obligations!
