Melbourne, Australia’s The Temper Trap (Dougie Mandagi on vocals, Lorenzo Sillitto on guitar, Joseph Greer on guitar, Jonathon Aherne on bass, Toby Dundas on drums) performing at Cedar Street Courtyard in Austin, Texas as part of Filter Magazine, American Rag and vTech’s Showdown at Cedar Street official SXSW show.
More photos after the break…
The Temper Trap was, admittedly, a band I knew very little about before seeing them at SXSW. Sure, I had heard a single or two played on The Current and a few people in the restaurant I was shooting from seemed to be very excited about their presence, but I was unprepared for their unexpectedly awesome performance. Even through a double-plane glass window their infectious melodies and rhythms came through and the entire band was incredibly in to their performance. After a set which seemed all too short I made sure I had an opportunity to see them when they came through Minneapolis on their next tour. I ended up shooting that show for Reviler and, honestly, they’re one of the rare bands I saw at SXSW that seemed as at home in the bright sunlight as they did in the darkness of the Varsity Theater.
